The Bhagavad Gita recognizes four legitimate purposes in life: Artha (security and resources), Kama (pleasure and connection), Dharma (righteous living according to your deepest nature), and Moksha (liberation — knowing what you actually are).

Most people are focused on the first two. The Gita isn't dismissing those. It's saying they won't give you what you're actually looking for.

Dharma is not "duty." It's the way a thing most naturally expresses its deepest nature. Your svadharma is the combination of your nature, skills, values, and life circumstances. "Better to perform one's own dharma imperfectly than to perform another's dharma perfectly." (BG 3:35)
