About

What is Naam Jap?

Naam Jap (also written as Naam Japa) is the ancient Vedic practice of repeating a divine name or sacred mantra with focus and devotion. The word 'Japa' comes from the Sanskrit root 'jap', meaning to utter in a low voice, to recite, or to mutter. For thousands of years, Naam Jap has been one of the most accessible and powerful spiritual practices in Hindu tradition, with no special venue, no complex ritual, just the repetitive, mindful chanting of the Lord's name.

Traditionally practiced with a mala (string of 108 beads), Japa builds concentration, reduces mental noise, and deepens one's connection to the divine. Whether it's Ram Naam, Om Namah Shivaya, Hare Krishna, or Gayatri Mantra, every tradition within Hinduism recognizes the transformative power of sacred repetition. The Bhagavad Gita itself (Chapter 10, Verse 25) has Lord Krishna declare: 'Among yajnas, I am the yajna of japa.'

Arutra's Naam Jaap feature brings this timeless practice into your daily life. Track each chant with a simple tap, set daily goals, maintain streaks, and contribute to a global community count that crosses 3–4.5 million Jap every single day.
