The sacred wood Vishnu holds dearest, for his japa and Guru's blessing

In almost every Indian courtyard there is a tulsi plant, watered each morning and lit with a lamp each evening. Tulsi is Vrinda, so dear to Lord Vishnu that no offering to him is complete without her leaf, and every Kartik, families celebrate her marriage to him in Tulsi Vivah.
A mala carved from tulsi wood carries that closeness. For centuries, Vaishnav devotees have worn tulsi beads at the throat as a sign that they belong to Krishna, and chanted his name on them. When you hold this mala, you hold the plant your grandmother prayed to, turned into beads for your own japa.
Wear it, and let Vishnu's own plant stay close to your heart. Devotees who wear tulsi speak of:
For Vishnu and Krishna devotees, for students and seekers, and for anyone who wants their day to begin and end with his name.
These are traditional beliefs, lovingly kept, and not guaranteed results.
The first time: on a Thursday, Guru's day, or on an Ekadashi morning:
For japa: rest the mala on your right middle finger and turn one bead with your thumb for each "Hare Krishna", starting beside the guru bead. When you reach the guru bead, turn the mala around; never cross it.
Care for it the way you care for your practice: gently, every day.
Many stores sell tulsi malas. Here is what you get only with Arutra:
Is tulsi good for a weak Guru or Budh?
In astrology, yes. The tulsi mala is traditionally worn to strengthen Guru (Jupiter) and Budh (Mercury), for wisdom, study and clear speech. It is especially loved by Dhanu, Meen, Mithun and Kanya rashi. Begin on a Thursday or an Ekadashi.
How do I know it's real tulsi?
Real tulsi wood is light, with a fine natural grain, and each bead is slightly different in shade. Rub a bead between your palms: real tulsi often gives a faint, sweet woody scent. And scan the QR on your card to see this batch's lab report and packing video.
Are there rules for wearing tulsi?
Many Vaishnav devotees keep sattvic habits while wearing tulsi, avoiding meat, alcohol, onion and garlic. Traditions differ, so please follow the guidance of your family or guru.
Can anyone wear it?
Yes, men and women of every rashi wear it, especially Vishnu and Krishna devotees. Follow your family's customs if you have any.
Can I sleep or bathe with it on?
Many devotees wear their tulsi kanthi at all times, while others take it off to bathe. We suggest taking it off to bathe and sleep, so the wood and thread last longer.
